NEW BERLIN – Wilfred J. “Bill” Wilbur, 89, of New Berlin, passed away early Wednesday morning, Oct. 10, 2012 at his home in New Berlin.
Bill was born on Feb. 16, 1923 in McDonough, the son of Edward and Helen Brown Wilbur. He was a resident of the New Berlin area for most of his life and had attended the local schools. A veteran of the United States Army, Bill served his country from January of 1943 until his honorable discharge in August of 1946. Over the years he had worked on the Carl Gregory Farm, Cowels Sanitation and most recently as a security guard at Simmonds Precision and Wilson Hospital.
On Nov. 8, 1947 in Sidney he married Mabel Miller, who passed away Oct. 31, 1987.
Bill is survived by his children Cheryl Bryden of Nineveh, Bonnie Tiffany and husband Bruce of South New Berlin, Gary Wilbur of Tucson, Ariz., Sandy Scott of New Berlin, Penny Eckert of South New Berlin, Michael Wilbur and wife Joyce of Gainesville, Ga. and Kimberly Broghammer and husband Douglas of New Berlin; 21 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Louis Wilbur and wife Doris of Sherburne and William Wilbur and wife Peggy of Norwich along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Mabel, Bill was predeceased by a son James Wilbur and a granddaughter Carolyn Wilbur, and his sisters Gertrude, Ethel, Rose, Lula and Evelyn.
Funeral services for Bill will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
