NORWICH – Marion G. Disbrow, 84, of Sherburne and most recently of Norwich, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 31, 2012, in the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Marion was born Aug. 30, 1928 in Long Branch, N.J., the daughter of Andrew and Gertrude Ely Goosley. On July 6, 1946 in Keyport, N.J., she married Richard Disbrow Sr. who passed away Dec. 1, 1985. She and her husband lived along the Jersey Shore before moving to the Sherburne area in 1976. She would have been saddened by the devastation of the areas they frequented as a family.
Marion was a very vibrant and spry 84 year old. She loved to travel around the world and stateside, spending time with her many friends. She also enjoyed her garden, yardwork, knitting, sewing, quilting and her faith in God. Most important to her was the fact she was very proud of her children and grandchildren. After moving to the area in 1976 she worked for the Ames Dept. Store and then went on to work for the Delaware-Chenango BOCES as a video library clerk before her retirement.
Marion was a member of the Sherburne United Church of Christ as well as the Community Church of Keyport in Keyport, N.J.
Marion is survived by her companion Charles Herzog of Worcester, her children, Richard Disbrow, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Gregory Disbrow and wife Sheila of Penn Yan and Cynthia Ashton and husband Timothy of Norwich, her grandchildren, Andrew Disbrow and wife Aimee of Rio Rancho, N.M., Joshua Ashton of Norwich and Nathaniel Ashton of Cortland. Also surviving are her great grandchildren Kayne Taylor and Jameson Disbrow of Rio Rancho, N.M., Dylan Garner of Fayetteville, N.C., her brother-in-law Robert Robinson of Dallas, Ga., sisters-in-law Annette Disbrow of Florida, Edna Disbrow of Fishersville, Va. along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Besides her husband Richard, Marion was predeceased by her parents Gertrude and Andrew Goosley, her sister Florence Robinson, grandson Ian Ashton, daughter-in-law Nancy Disbrow, brother-in-law Roger Disbrow and many dear and close friends.
A funeral service for Marion will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich. Pastor Joanne Lanfear of the Sherburne United Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
