Lloyd Vanleuven


NEW BERLIN – Lloyd E. VanLeuven Jr., 86, of New Berlin, passed away on Nov. 6, 2012 at his home.
Lloyd was born on July 28, 1926 in Albany, the son of Lloyd & Catherine (VanGelder) VanLeuven. His childhood was spent in the Albany and Rensselaer areas where he was a graduate of Van Rensselaer High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater and was awarded the purple heart.
On July 12, 1947 he married Margaret Keenan, who predeceased him in September 2000.
Lloyd was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation as a motor vehicle inspector.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin, the Masons, the East Greenbush, NY V.F.W., American Legion Post #7338, American Legion Post 348 of New Berlin and a life time member of the New Berlin Fire Department.
Lloyd is survived by his children; Richard (Mary)VanLeuven of Potsdam, Donald (Ann) VanLeuven of Washington, D.C. and Phyllis (Ron) Britton of Sherburne, as well son-in-law, Wes Bradley of Florida, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter; Marcia Brown, his infant son; Ronald VanLeuven, his sister; Louis Bowers and brother; Robert VanLeuven.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP with Pastor Lyle Linder officiating.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. also at the funeral home.
The interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.
Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 51 South Main St., New Berlin, NY or the New Berlin Fire Department, New Berlin, NY.
