NORWICH – Barbara F. Mirabito, 89, of Rexford Street, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 12, 1917 in Litchfield, Minn., Barbara was the daughter of William H. and Frances (Hendrix) McGraw. She was raised in Minnesota and graduated from the St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing. Following her schooling she trained at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Barbara was a supervising nurse in Minnesota, Fargo, North Dakota and Seattle, Washington before moving to Norwich in 1945. She worked at Valley View Manor Nursing Home and in private duty as well as staying home to raise her family.
Barbara was a member of the Church of St. Bartholomew. She also enjoyed collecting ceramic birds. Her greatest love, however, was sharing times with her husband, her children and her grandchildren.
On Oct. 9, 1943, in Inglewood, Calif., Barbara married Frank A. Mirabito of Norwich who survives. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Frank and Janet Mirabito of Norwich, Patricia and Marvin Van Hoover of Liverpool, Barbara and Philip McGuire of Norwich, Susan and Edward Ziesche of Minneapolis, Mary Jane and David Barrows of Norwich, Diane and John Hust of Rochester, Dennis and Nancy Mirabito of Norwich, Kathleen and Edward Coates of Norwich, Kenneth and Lisa Mirabito of Norwich, Judith and Michael Witte of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Elizabeth Mirabito of Norwich, Laurie and Antulio Echevarria of Carlisle, Pa. and Timothy and Pamela Mirabito of Norwich; 28 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by a sister, Irene McHugh and a brother, Orville McGraw.
There will be a Mass of Resurrection for Barbara at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Church of St. Bartholomew. Burial will take place in the spring in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
