CHARLES BLISS
NORWICH – Charles Bliss of Grove Avenue passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 at the Chenango Memorial Residential Health Care Facility, surrounded by his family and friends.
Born Feb. 3, 1952 in Norwich, Chuck was the son of Ernest I. Bliss and Shirley (Dibble) Bliss. He graduated from Norwich High School in the Class of 1970. Following school he moved to Bennington Vermont, where he worked for M.H. Fishman before returning to Norwich to live. He worked in construction most of his life, working for his father Ernie and as a self-employed contractor, as well as Mike Morse and most recently with Denny Schlafer Construction.
Chuck was an active member of the Assembly of God Church of Norwich, where he served as an Elder and Board Member. He had an active prayer ministry for the sick and hospitalized. Besides his family, Chuck’s interests included hunting, cars, archery, horseshoes and especially bowling where he had bowled three 300 games. He also played semi-pro football for the Oneonta Indians.
Chuck is survived by his mother, Shirley Magistro of Norwich; two sons, Michael Bliss and his wife Laurie of Norwich and Ray Bliss and his wife Michele of Dolgeville; a sister, Frances Baran and her husband Richard of Lancaster; his brothers Edward Bliss and his wife Pamela of Crawford, Colo. and Stephen Bliss and his wife Joyce of Norwich; a step-sister Sandra Myers and her husband Robert of Norwich, step-brothers Douglas Trask of Norwich, Charles Trask and his wife Mary of Sherburne, and Howard Trask and his wife Debbie of Otego. Also surviving are his grandchildren Sydney, Flynn and Taylor Bliss. He is also survived by his step-mother Virginia Bliss and his father’s companion Annetta Dunkle, and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Chuck was predeceased by his father, Ernest, his step-father Angelo ‘Buff’ Magistro, and a step-sister, Cheryl Law.
Funeral services for Chuck will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Assembly of God Church, Norwich, with Rev. Dennis McKenna officiating. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will take place in Southside Cemetery in Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, Chuck’s family requests that contributions remembering him be made to the Assembly of God Church, 97 Silver Street, Norwich, or Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich.
