NORWICH – Helena Irene Balla, 89, of the Valley View Nursing Home, Park St., passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012.
She was born on May 8, 1923 in Oxford, the daughter of Charles Wm. and Lena Maud Westcott Crouch. She was a graduate of Hamilton Central School, Class of 1941. Following her post-graduate year 1942, she moved to Syracuse, New York where she attended Continuation School and was employed at the Syracuse Herald Journal. In 1945, she returned to Hamilton where she was employed at Colgate University Administrative Building. She married Alfred E. Balla of North Norwich on March 16, 1946. He died Jan. 13, 1999. Mrs. Balla was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1948.
She is survived by three sons, Daniel of Plymouth; Gary of Bouckville, and Timothy of New Berlin; and a daughter, Linda Bliss of St. Augustine, Fla.; a brother, Raymond Crouch of Oregon and several grandchildren.
Cremation took place at the Chenango Valley Crematorium in Earlville.
Private graveside services will be held in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Hamilton, to mark her 90th birthday on May 8, 2013 at 11:40 a.m.
There will be no calling hours.
