Paul Loomis
UNION VALLEY – Paul R. Loomis, 91, of Union Valley, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at his home.
Paul was born in Pitcher on Nov. 20, 1921, a son of the late Ray and Nellie Steward Loomis. For several years, he worked as a self-employed carpenter in the area where he made beautiful cabinetry and installed a great many standing-seam roofs. Prior to his service in the Army, he had worked in Sandy Hook, CT. He and his late wife, Camilla, were strong advocates for the people against the nuclear waste dump in the Town of Taylor. Paul was a loving, husband, father and grandfather, and an incredible storyteller. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Michael) Pryor of Union Valley and Deborah (Bruce) Marcham of McGraw. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Scott (Valerie) Yeaw, Michael (Tracey Dutton) Pryor, Cheryl (Michael) Phippen, David Yeaw, Candi (Terry) Bordell, Zebulon (Kath Tibbetts) Davis and Zenta (Donald) Smith; his great-grandchildren, Mary, Kayla, Sean, Joan, Calista, Cameron, McKena, and Sophie; and his great-great-grandchildren, Zachary, Logan, and Aria Rose; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will also be missed by his canine companions, Pepper and Heidi.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Camilla Loomis, on January 24, 2009; a brother, Floyd “Fink” Loomis; and sisters, Fern Holl and Dorothy Preston.
Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, at 11 a.m. Friday, with Jeanne Angell officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Taylor Rural Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
