SMYRNA – Mary F. Symonds, 86, formerly of Smyrna and Norwich, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at the Otsego Manor, Cooperstown.
She was born Sept. 28, 1926 in Hamilton, a daughter of Herbert and Iva Duell Fuller and was a 1944 graduate of Sherburne High School. On May 29, 1949, Mary married Jesse Symonds in Smyrna. He predeceased her on Feb. 9, 1981. Mary had worked in the Chenango County Treasurer’s Office in Norwich for 25 years until her retirement in 1992. A Smyrna resident most of her life, she had been the Treasurer and Tax Collector for the Town of Smyrna for several years. She was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, and a son-in-law, Lori and Melvin Magrath of Oxford, and Rebecca Smith of Hamilton; a sister, Edna Buddle of Sherburne; brothers, Hartley Fuller of Smyrna and Jerry Fuller of Arizona; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Aubrey Fuller and son-in-law, Robert F. Smith.
Graveside services will be held in the Willcox Cemetery, Smyrna, in the spring.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Smyrna Baptist Church.
