SHERBURNE – Mary “Rita” Abbott, 86, of North Main St., passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at UHS/Chenango Memorial Hospital RHCF, Norwich.
She was born March 5, 1926 in Sherburne, a daughter of Joseph and Fachia Yarak Abbott. At an early age Mary moved to Lebanon and returned to the United States in 1947. She had worked at the Utica Knitting Mill, T.A.C.O., Lilly White, Chesebrough Ponds and Sherwood Medical until her retirement.
Mary was a member of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne and a past member of the Altar & Rosary Society. Mary truly enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Tony & Linda Abbott of Liverpool; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Theresa and John Guter, Donna Abbott of Sherburne, and Ostina Abbott of Cicero; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers, Joseph, Moses, Michael, Albert and Jim Abbott; and a sister-in-law, Fannie Abbott.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday from St. Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne.
Interment will be in the spring at St. Malachy’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 2:45 p.m.
