Earl Greene


OTSELIC – Earl Francis Green, 89, of Liverpool, and formerly of Otselic, passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at the Syracuse VA Medical Center.
Earl was born in South Otselic on Sept. 24, 1923, a son of the late Louis and Cynthia Pearl Dye Green. He was a 1941 graduate of South Otselic Central School. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and after completing basic training went to Deopham Air Base near Norwich, England. On April 9, 1944, he was shot down over Denmark, crash landed in a B17 Bomber, and was taken to the hospital in Denmark with a wound to his leg. Four months later he was taken to a German Prisoner of War Camp and remained there until he was released by the Russians at the end of World War II. He was discharged from the Army on October 14, 1945 and, shortly after the war, went into dairy farming in Otselic until his retirement. Earl was a member of the 452nd Bomber Group, the Perry-Cook American Legion Post #973, South Otselic, and the Cicero United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Arlene Whorrall Green; and his children, Thomas M. (Sandra) Green of Tallahassee, FL, Deborah L. (Richard) Danforth of Fairport, and Dennis P. (Tina) Green of Eaton. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Michael Danforth, Thomas Green, Jr., Jennifer Danforth, and Joanna Killigrew; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Genevieve MacDonald of Westmoreland.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at the Perry-Cook American Legion, South Otselic at 11 a.m. Saturday with Reverend Barbara Carns officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Valley View Cemetery, South Otselic, at a later date.
The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be directed to the Perry-Cook American Legion Post #973, 167 Valley View Road, South Otselic, NY 13155.
