NEW BERLIN – Richard D. Borst Sr., 76, of Corryton, Tennessee, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013. He retired from working as a Mason in 1975. He had served as Fire Chief in New Berlin and Pittsfield. Richard was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5690 and American Legion 110, Port Charlotte, Fla.
Surviors include wife, Norma Jensen Borst; children Wendy Prentice and husband, Jeffrey, Cindy Kupris and husband, Bernard, both of Knoxville, TN, son Richard Borst Jr. of Punta Gorda, Fla., son Norman Raastad of Kingsport, Tenn.; sister, Charline Gibbs and husband Robert of North Norwich; brother Thomas J. Borst of New Berlin; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and special friend, Whiskers the rabbit.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Queenie Decker Borst; a grandson, Jeremy Prentice; a son, Douglas Raastad.
Friends and family gathered at the home on Feb. 21 for a celebration of Richard’s life. Graveside services will be held at a later date in New York State.
