EARLVILLE – Donald J. Smith, 81, of Bradley Brook Rd., passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Hamilton.
He was born Aug. 31, 1931 in Syracuse, a son of Herbert J. and Mary O’Connor Smith and received his education in Syracuse schools. On Feb. 18, 1950, Donald married Patricia A. Hunt in Syracuse. Don was a truck driver for Stott-Davis Motor Freight in Auburn until his retirement.
He was a very active member of the New Life Christian Church, serving as a trustee and a member of the Men’s Study group. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union Local #317 of Syracuse.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia; his children, Colleen and Michael Hodell, Baldwinsville; Kathleen and Allen Kendall, Eaton; Mary Smith, Reno, NV; Donald J. Smith, Jr., Willseyville; Sharon and Anthony Scott Goodson, Brevard, NC; Timothy and Susan Smith, Morrisville; Therese and Thomas Crouch, Vero Beach, FL; James and Joanne Smith, Eaton; Patricia Smith, Cazenovia; Matthew and Shannon Smith, Houma, LA; Carol and Kevin Sykes, Morrisville; Sean and Carrie Smith, Perryville; sisters, Jeanne Robbins, Fernandina Beach, FL; Patricia Gillman, Lafayette and Diane Murray, Chittenango; 41 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Pierce and Carol Evans.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from the New Life Christian Church, 1528 River Rd., Hamilton.
Spring interment will be in the South Brookfield Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
