SMYRNA – Francis Greene Shepardson, 97, a resident of Lakeland, Fla. since 1984 formerly of Canandaigua and Smyrna, passed away on Jan. 4, 2013 in Lakeland.
Francis was born in Smyrna in May of 1915, the son of Ery Stokes and Agnes Stanton Shepardson. He grew up in Smyrna where he attended the local school and was a graduate of Cornell University. Francis had made his home in Canandaigua for 40 years where he was employed by Farm Bureau Production Credit of NYS retiring as Vice President. He was a veteran of the United States Army and had been a member of the American Legion Post in both Canandaigua and Lakeland for 65 years. Francis along with his brother Richard had also worked at the C.C.C. Camp.
In his leisure time he enjoyed traveling, working in his garden and entertaining.
Francis is survived by his sister Mary Alice Whitney of Smyrna, several nieces and nephews and his neighbors in Lakeland, Fla.
Francis was predeceased by his wife Cleora Godfrey Shepardson, his brothers Richard, Stanton and Stanley. At the time of his death he was also survived by brother Carl, who passed away March 10, 2013.
Private services for Francis were held in Lakeland with interment to be in the Sherburne West Hill Cemetery.
