Margaret Scribner


SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Margaret E. Scribner, 90, formerly of South New Berlin, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 24, 2007 in the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital, where she had made her home for the past six years.
Born in Port Dickinson on July 12, 1916, Margaret was the daughter of George and Irma (Greenleaf) Schumaker. She moved to the Leonardsville area as a young girl and was married to Clyde Scribner in Great Bend, Pa., on Dec. 6, 1947. On July 29, 1949, Margaret went to work for the Norwich Pharmacal Company and, during her 29 years there, she was in charge of the uniforms and assisted the company nurse, Ruth Butts. She retired on July 31, 1978, as a member of the company’s Quarter Century Service Club. For over 30 years, Margaret lived in South New Berlin before moving to Norwich. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Margaret is survived by her step-daughter, Margaret Wall of Virginia; by her sisters, Jean Spooner of West Edmeston and Frances Webber of Cortland; her step-grandchildren: Lisa Wall of Canada, Allan Wall of Virginia, Gary Wall of Florida, Michael Lawrence and wife Pena of New Berlin, Ken Lawrence and wife Carol of Edmeston, and Morton and Bonnie Parker of South New Berlin. She is also survived by step-great grandchildren, Tasha Robinson and husband Jeremy of Edmeston and Todd Parker and wife Danielle of New Berlin; and nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Clyde, on May 14, 1990; her step-daughter, Betty Lawrence; by her sister, Helen Harding; and by her brothers-in-law: Harold Lawrence and Allan Wall.
Margaret’s grandson, Morton Parker, wishes to thank the Residential Health Care Facility for the care given to Margaret over the past several years. She will be missed by all who enjoyed her company during her stay there.
Private committal services will be held at the family’s convenience. Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
