OXFORD – Susan Ann Marrone Nelson, 52, of Oxford, passed on Tuesday, March 19th, 2013.
The daughter of Carl and Dorothy (Stevens) Marrone, Susan was born on October 21, 1960, in Oceanside, Long Island. Susan graduated from Oxford Academy in 1978 and received a BA in Psychology from Keuka College in 1982. Shortly after, she received her Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from The New School. On November 27, 1982, she married Jeff Nelson in Oxford.
Always selfless, Susan was the ultimate caregiver. She worked for Broome Developmental Services for 30 years and found true enjoyment in caring for her clients. Her greatest pride was raising her three children and she will be remembered as the best mom. She was her kids’ number one cheerleader, always on the sideline for sporting events. Susan loved music and was Collective Soul’s number one fan. She loved the beach, reading and being “Doobie” to her grandsons. Her favorite pastime was going to spaghetti dinner with the entire Marrone family every Sunday.
In addition to her parents and husband, Susan is survived by her three children: Melissa (Michael) Chrystie, of Oxford; Jessica Nelson (Mark Fish), of Binghamton; and Jeremy Nelson, of Oxford. She is survived by two brothers: Steven Marrone and Michael (Stephanie) Marrone, both of Oxford. She leaves behind one sister, Dianne (Marty Conklin) Marrone, of South Plymouth. In addition, many, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins survive. She is also survived by the Nelson family. Finally, Susan is survived by her beloved twin grandsons, Cooper and Carter Chrystie.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking to consider making a donation to one of Susan’s favorite charities: Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Friends and family may call at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, as well as noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. A service will be held immediately following calling hours on Sunday at the funeral home.
