Edgar Weckworth
SHERBURNE – Edgar P. Weckworth, 94, of County Rd. 20, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at home.
He was born February 11, 1919 in Ottowa, Canada, a son of Paul and Martha Grimm Weckworth. The family moved to NY where Edgar graduated from Smyrna schools. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. in May 1942, serving in the ETO at Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes, and was honorably discharged in 1945. On September 6, 1942, Edgar married Doris Spicer in Marian, Ark., where he was stationed for a brief time. Following his military service they returned to Smyrna to raise their family. Edgar worked at I.L. Richer in Norwich until his retirement. As a teenager, he had worked at the Smyrna Creamery. Following his retirement, they moved to their “Shangri-La” in Venice, Fla. for 23 years, returning to this area in 2007. Doris predeceased him on March 4, 2008.
Edgar was a former member of the Smyrna Fire Department.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Vance and Amy (Neadom) Weckworth, Great Falls, MT; Bruce and Kim (Chin Su) Weckworth, Hampton, VA; Barry and Linda (Pinney) Weckworth, Sherburne; grandchildren, Brian Weckworth, Bruce Weckworth, Jr., Richard and wife, Misty Weckworth, all of Yorktown, VA; Lisa (Weckworth) Cannington and husband, Mitch, Valdosta, GA; Sarina (Weckworth) Owen and husband Jason, Sherburne; Barry (BJ) Weckworth Jr. and Nancy, Smyrna; Rachel (Weckworth) Bohannon and husband, Robert, Byron Weckworth, Vance Weckworth and Leah, all of Great Falls, MT; great-grandchildren, Chance, Blake, Jack, Grayson Bohannon, Kayla and Evan Weckworth, Rachel and Austin Cannington, Hunter, Lincoln and Desirae Owen, and Aspen Weckworth; step-grandchildren, Dianne, Brodie and Mae Roebuck; brother, Robert Weckworth of Greensboro, NC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Hamilton, Irene Graves and Edna Suydan.
In keeping with his wishes services and interment in the Earlville Cemetery will be private.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
