NORWICH – Eileen G. Herron of Norwich passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Jan. 28, 2007 at the home of her granddaughter in Cooperstown with her family at her side.
Born in Canajoharie on June 16, 1922, Eileen was the daughter of the late Harold and Bertha (Gessinger) VanAlstine. She was raised and educated in Canajoharie.
She married Louis C. Herron on Jan. 25, 1941. He was a proud veteran of World War II. He predeceased her on June 10, 1969.
Eileen continued to reside in Canajoharie until 1995 when she relocated to Norwich to be closer to her daughter. She lived independently at Golden Age Apartments and enjoyed many activities with the other tenants.
Through the years, Eileen worked for Beech-Nut Lifesavers and Comptone’s Limited, but most of all she enjoyed caring her children, being a homemaker, and tending the family vegetable garden.
She will be remembered as a kind, quiet woman who enjoyed simple pleasures. Her family was very important to her. She looked forward to family vacations on the Outer Banks in North Carolina. She enjoyed rocking in her chair and holding her six great grandchildren. She was the proud matriarch of four generations.
Eileen is survived by her two children, Gail E. Sabella and her husband Anthony, of Norwich and Robert L. Herron and his wife Renee of Merrimack, N.H. She has five grandchildren, Nicole Herron of Nashua, N.H., Keith Herron of Brighton, Mass., Dr. Janine Sabella-Woeppel (Jeffrey) of Cooperstown, Jennifer Davis (Gary) of Clarks Summit, Pa., and Michele Milliman (Anthony) of Rochester. Additionally, she is survived by six great grandchildren, Alexander, Gabrielle, Celia, Clayton, Colin, and Andrew.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilson Funeral Home in Norwich.
Services will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with Reverend Jeff Hale, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, officiating.
Eileen’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors, nurses and personal caregivers who treated her and provided her care at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Bassett Healthcare, Valley Health Services of Herkimer, the Oxford Veterans Home and most recently Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care.
