NORWICH – Ruth B. Hadley passed away on May 9, 2013, in Thousand Oaks, California. She was born Ruth Norman Benedict in Norwich, NY, on June 7, 1920, to Addison Elijah Benedict and Sarah Waite Benedict. She lovingly remembered Norwich all her life.
She received a BA from Mount Holyoke College and an MA in Education from Columbia. She married Carmer Hadley, MD, in San Francisco in 1948, and began married life in Framingham, MA. They moved to Southern California in 1952 and lived in Altadena and Pasadena until Carmer’s death in 2000. Ruth worked for many years as a kindergarten teacher in schools in Pasadena. She moved to Thousand Oaks in 2006.
She is remembered by her three sons, six grandchildren and three great-grand-hildren. She had a wry sense of humor, loved family, music and gardening, and her greatest pleasure was in working and playing with children, both her relatives and the children she taught in kindergarten.
