NORWICH – John Ciampa, 70, of Norwich and formerly of New York City, passed away early Thursday morning, Feb. 1, 2007 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich.
Born in Brooklyn on Sept. 29, 1936, John was the son of John and Isabelle (Nuccio) Ciampa. He lived most of his life in New York City, where he was employed for 31 years by Biltmore Textile. John worked in every phase of the company's business, from design to packaging. In his earlier years, until he was 17, he had had his own radio show, where he was known as the “Brooklyn Sinatra” because of his wonderful singing voice. Talented in the music field, John had privately written music for over 50 years. He and his wife Joan had lived in Norwich since the mid-1990s.
On Sept. 29, 1964, in New York City, John married Joan Barcia. He is survived by his wife, Joan Ciampa of Norwich, and by his sons, John Ciampa and Michael Stephen Ciampa, both of Woodhaven, Queens; and by his grandchildren, Angelica Christine Ciampa and Justin Matthew Ciampa. He was predeceased by his brothers, William, Cosmo, and Anthony Ciampa.
A prayer service for John will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Lester Smith, pastor of St. Malachy's Roman Catholic Church of Sherburne, will officiate. Interment will be at the convenience of John’s family.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service at 1:30 p.m.
