Jeanne O’connor


NORWICH – Jeanne Collins O’Connor, 87 of Annapolis, Md., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007 at her home.
Jeanne was born Nov. 6, 1919 in Binghamton. She was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and Trinity College, Washington, D.C. After graduation, she worked as a proofreader for the Government Printing Office in Washington. Jeanne spent most of her life as a homemaker, living for many years in Norwich and later Cohoes. She peeled 22 tons of potatoes during her lifetime and carried 15 million baskets of laundry up the stairs. Jeanne started traveling to Florida as a child and always enjoyed spending time in the Sunshine State. In her later years, she spent winters in Daytona Beach, Fla. She relished an after dinner cigarette and cup of coffee and looked forward to a Tom Collins in the evening. In the 1960s, Jeanne became a world traveler with her husband, visiting Europe, the Far East and the Caribbean. She was an avid swimmer and liked nothing better than the caress of tropical waters.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. John R. O’Connor; her 11 children, Dick and Jeanne O’Connor, BJ and Jay Buckler, Jack and Teresa O’Connor, Mary O’Connor, Maragret and Dennis Casey, Dennis and Mary Lou O’Connor, Stan O’Connor and Ursula Katayama, Jerry and Connie O’Connor, Kevin and Teresa O’Connor, Kathleen and JR Watson, Maureen O’Connor; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Margaret Goodman and Betty Budd.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick’s Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Saturday at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Jeanne be made to your local hospice program.
