NORWICH – Clarence A. “Andy” Edick Jr., 61, of Norwich, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at his home.
Andy was born in Norwich on Oct. 22, 1951 the son of Clarence Edick Sr. and Dora Fairchild Edick. He grew up in the Norwich area and attended the Norwich schools. Following his education he entered the United States Army serving his country from February of 1969 until his honorable discharge in May of 1971. Upon his service to his country, Andy moved to Florida where he became a paid firefighter working for the Broward County Fire Dept. for a period of 17 years. He also worked as a coast-to-coast truck driver for several years. Deciding to move back to the area, Andy made his home on Lake Gerry for several years and for the past six years has lived in the German Hollow area.
First and foremost, Andy’s family meant everything to him. Even though he sometimes had a gruff exterior, he had a heart of gold and would lay his life on the line for anyone. His CB handle was MR Grump which was translated into mean, rotten and grumpy. He was a lifelong firefighter and was a longtime active member of the Plymouth Fire Dept.
On March 21, 1992 in Oxford, he married Barbara Corey Edick who survives. Besides his wife Barb, Andy is survived by his children Katelyn Edick of Norwich, Jennifer Fritz of Kinston, NC, Tracy Edick of West Palm Beach, FL and Christopher Edick of Port St. Luce, FL, his twin sister Sandra Edick of Oxford, brothers Russell Edick of NJ, John Edick of Oxford and his grandson Jordan Fritz. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins, and two nieces, along with his brother-in-law Robert Travis of Oxford.
Andy was predeceased by his sisters Linda and Judith Edick.
Funeral services for Andy will be held at noon on Friday, Sept. 6 from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Jack Goodchild, Chaplain of the Plymouth Fire Dept., will officiate. Interment with military rites will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
