Richard C. Harrington, 57, of Sherburne, NY, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Many friends and family members gathered at his home upon learning of his unexpected passing to comfort the immediate family on Tuesday.
Richard was born on July 3, 1956 in New Berlin, son of the late, Alwin J. and Betty Gail (Simmons) Harrington, who survives. He graduated from Edmeston High School and has lived in the area his entire life. Richard worked for 27 years at Sun Printing in Norwich as a paper carrier. In 1990 Richard was married to Lisa M. Harrington in Sherburne, NY who survives.
Richard enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing and going to auctions. He was a NASCAR fan and especially enjoyed watching his favorite driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. Richard is described by those who loved him as a laid back, down to earth man, who was devoted to his family. He is remembered for being a loving husband, father, son and grandfather. Richard was loved by children and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his sons Richard W. and Charity Harrington of Johnson City, Justin and Ashley Harrington of Sherburne, Michael Hollenbeck of Albany, Richard Hollenbeck of Albany, Matthew Hollenbeck of Mass; daughters Cassandra Harrington of Sherburne and her partner Reesa Lyons of New Berlin, and Shelby Harrington of Sherburne; brothers Jack and Debbie Harrington of Sherburne, Tom Harrington and Jean West of Norwich, Randy and Wilma Harrington of New Berlin; his sisters Barbra and Bob Jones of Unadilla Forks, Amy and Stewart Tuttle of New Berlin, Cathy and Clark Utter of Oneonta, and Jeri and Larry Rifenburg of Laurens; his grandchildren Julian and Zachary Meeker, Joshua and Katie Harrington of New Hampton, NY, Mackenzie Harrington of Johnson City, Rileigh Harrington of Sherburne, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at noon at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich with Rev. Jeremy Stopford, Pastor of the Earlville Baptist Church, Officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Graveside services will be held immediately following the service in Union Cemetery in Edmeston, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made directly to Lisa Harrington and her children to help them during this difficult time.
