NORWICH – Doris Anne Dopp Dudley, 72, of North Broad Street, passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2007 at her home in Norwich.
Doris is survived by her husband of 51 years, William H. Dudley, of Norwich; three sons, Philip A. Dudley of Stowe, Vermont, William A. Dudley and his wife, Jill, of Cazenovia and Paul H. Dudley and his companion, Heidi Lyons, of Fremont; four grandchildren, Ethan, Matthew, Emma and Claire; a son-in-law, Gregory Knight, a brother, James M. Dopp and his wife, Vicki, of Virginia and Shawn Howard a close family friend. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Doris was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Dudley Knight, a brother, David E. Dopp and a sister-in-law, Nancy G. Dopp.
Born August 19, 1934 in Amsterdam, Doris was the daughter of James E. and Mildred A. (Melzer) Dopp. She graduated as valedictorian of her class from Manlius High School and then earned her Bachelors Degree from the School of Human Ecology at Cornell University.
On September 17, 1955 in Manlius, Doris married her husband, William. Doris taught school at both Interlaken and East Syracuse Minoa. Upon her arrival in Norwich in 1981, Doris worked as the bookkeeper at the former Kehoe Furniture Store for many years.
Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manlius and the First Baptist Church of Norwich. She actively sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served in the Baptist Women's Fellowship.
She strongly believed in community service and volunteered for the Boy and Girl Scouts of America, Manlius Youth Sports, Board of Elections, Meals on Wheels, Canasawacta Country Club Women's Golf League and the American Cancer Society. Additionally, she was a board member for the Chenango Valley Home and the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Doris will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Susan Polizzi, pastor, officiating.
Burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Doris may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815 or to the First Baptist Church, West Park Place, Norwich, NY 13815 or to Boy Scouts of America.
