Irene Ingraham

NORWICH – Irene L. Ingraham, 88, long-time resident of Norwich, passed away at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home on Feb. 13, 2007.
Born on June 12, 1918, on the family farm in the Town of New Berlin, Irene was the third child of Archie and Ruby Tyler. Most of her schooling was in a one-room schoolhouse, and Irene always had a story to tell about her years growing up in the Great Brook area.
While working in the Norwich area as a housekeeper, Irene met her husband of 57 years, Edward “Ed” Ingraham, and was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. She worked for a period of time at the Pennysaver in the basement of Ralph St. Denny’s home. For many years, she babysat children in her home while bringing up her own three children. Irene also bowled in area leagues for many years with her husband. Being an excellent cook, she was known for her apple pies. After retirement, Irene and Ed went to Myrtle Beach for the winter.
Irene is survived by her children: Carol (Robert) Ayer of Freeville, Keith (Rose) Ingraham of Norwich, and Richard (Karen) Ingraham of Norwich; grandchildren Linda (Robert) Robitaille of Malta, Karen (Randy) Trask of Newfield, Deborah Ayer and her partner Heidi of Owego, Kristin (Joseph) Harris of Norwich, Robyn (Jeff) Uhlig of Norwich, and Ryan Ingraham of Syracuse. Also surviving are six great grandchildren: Alexis and Brittany Von Schiller, Gavin Trask, Megan and Brooke Harris, and Wyatt Uhlig, and several nieces and nephews.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1998, and by her brothers Ralph, Louis, and Donald Tyler.
Funeral services for Irene will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The Rev. Glenn Mahaffey, rector, will officiate.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Irene’s family will greet friends at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the service. Following the service, there will be a reception in the church hall for family and friends.
Irene’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Norwich Emergency Squad, 31 East Main St., Norwich, NY 13815.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
