NEW BERLIN – Thomas F. Hanley, 82, of New Berlin, died Monday June 5, 2006 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford.
He was born in Flushing on Sept. 28, 1923 the son of Thomas F. Hanley and Lillian (Griffin) Hanley. He married Dorothy Still on July 20, 1946 at St. Andrews Roman Catholic church in Flushing, Long Island. The would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this July. Tom served his country during World War II in the United States Army having been in the European theater of operations. He was employed as a cost estimator at BF Goodrich of Norwich until his retirement. He was a very devoted member of St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church of New Berlin.
Tom loved his wife of 60 years with a kind heart and a tenderness that came through his ten children. He taught us all to be God Fearing and with the Lord in our hearts all things are possible. Tom enjoyed his woodworking shop and found great peace in making special treasures for his family and friends to enjoy. For those of us who had the pleasure of really knowing what a wonderful man, husband, father and friend he was, we are blessed.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy L. Hanley; his children, Kathy G. Sausen of Florida, Thomas F. Hanley III of California, John C. Hanley of New Berlin, Jeanne L. Whitman of Virginia, Donna M. Curtis of Greene, Stephen P. Hanley of Norwich, Carolynn Fitzgerald of Sherburne, Sue A. Barney of Morris, Moura K. Hanley of New Berlin, as well as 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Tom was predeceased by a daughter Marianne C. Hanley, who died in 1984. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris. The Rosary service will beheld at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m Thursday at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church in New Berlin with the Rev. Francis Case officiating. Committal services with military honors and burial will follow in Hillington Cemetery in Morris. Online condolences may be sent to www.johnstonfh.com
