BAINBRIDGE – Gilbert E. Lockwood Jr., 56, of Bainbridge, passed away early Thursday morning, March 8, 2007 at his home.
Gilbert was born Jan. 23, 1951 in Binghamton, the son of Gilbert and Nettie Zeininger Lockwood Sr. He grew up in the Afton, Mt. Upton and Guilford area where he attended the local schools. Throughout his whole life he had worked in the construction business for several local contractors and had also worked with his father in the operation of their own business, Lockwood & Sons Blacktop and Paving.
A man who loved to sing, Gilbert had traveled to Nashville where he had recorded several records. He was also known as a man who loved to party with everyone he knew. In earlier years Gilbert enjoyed his dog races.
Gilbert is survived by his children: Dwayne Lockwood of Gilbertsville, Lorraine Brooks and husband John of Morris, Jeremy Hazard and Eric Simmons both of New Berlin, Lisa Wilchynski and husband Anthony of Norwich, Gene Lockwood and companion Heather Llewelyn of Norwich and Kristen Lockwood also of Norwich, his mother Nettie Lockwood of Guilford, his sister Nancy Bush and husband Terry of Oxford, his brothers Michael Lockwood and wife Cathie Norwich and Mark Lockwood and wife Wendy of Guilford. Also surviving are several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Gilbert will be held at 1 p.m. Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Brian Conover, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Glenwood Cemetery of Afton. Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
