NORWICH – Katharine F. Stanton, 90, Fair Street, Norwich, passed away at her home Wednesday, March 7, 2007.
Born Nov. 4, 1916 in New Concord, Ohio, Katharine was the daughter of Edward H. and Marion (Hogan) Freeman. She earned her bachelor of science degree in 1938 from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. She pursued a very long career teaching mathematics in Port Clinton, Ohio, where she and David H. Stanton Jr., her husband of 55 years, raised their family. In her leisure time she studied astronomy, tended a large organic garden and mastered many complex crafts. She moved to Norwich in 1996.
Katharine is survived by two daughters, Katharine DeRensis and her husband, Nicholas of Norwich and Nancy Johnson and her husband, Alan Minard, of Marion, Mass.; a son David H. Stanton and his wife, Marilyn (Stiver) of Niles Ohio; five grandchildren, one great grandson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by a sister, Alice Anderson and a brother, Edward H. Freeman, Jr.
A family service for Katharine will be held in the spring at Sherman Cemetery, Sherman. There will be no calling hours.
