OXFORD – Edward G. Mottl, 88, formerly of Franklin Mountain, Oneonta, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford.
The son of Peter and Susan (Karashinsky) Motti, Ed was born on June 19, 1918, in Sayville, where he spent his early years. During World War II, Ed served his country in the U.S. Army. While living downstate, he operated his own butcher shop on Long Island and was also a meat cutter for the A&P. Ed moved to the Franklin Mountain area in the early 1960s, where he continued to reside until the 1990s. For the last six years, he had been a resident at the NYS Veteran’s Home. During his years there, the Vets’ Home became Ed’s home and the staff, his extended family. He is survived by many family members and friends who will miss him deeply. His life was especially brightened by visits from his grandson, Cooper, who, since his birth, had been a regular visitor to his grandfather.
At Ed’s request, there will be no formal services. Donations can be made in Ed’s name to the American Diabetes Association, 6390 Fly Road, 2nd Floor, E. Syracuse, NY 13057.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich.
