OXFORD – Doris A. (Walker) Gardner was born on Feb. 3, 1930, in Oxford, the daughter of George and Florence (Harris) Walker. Doris died on March 22, 2007, after a brief illness.
Doris had been a life-long resident of Chenango County, where she raised her children and worked as a home health care aide for 40 years. Doris was a faithful Jehovah’s Witness here in the local Norwich congregation. She enjoyed sharing the good news of God’s kingdom for the past 30 years in the door-to-door work and, most recently, in the telephone witnessing work. Doris loved her family very much and was actively involved in the daily lives other children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her 6 children and their spouses: Pamela Corbin, Randall Waters, Sharon Cavness, Ellen Loughren and son-in-law Jerry F. Loughren, Mark Waters and daughter-in-law Dawn Waters, Jean Sharpe and son-in-law Daniel Sharpe Sr. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and their spouses: Robert and Rebecca Corbin, Keith and Stacy Corbin, Raymond Cavness, Rebecca and Joe Root, Michael and Terri Waters, Andrew Waters, Jerry J. Loughren, John and Melissa Beckwith, Joe Beckwith, Daniel Sharpe Jr., Ryan Sharpe, and Adrienne Sharpe, as well as 10 great-grandchildren: Shawna Corbin, Benjamin Corbin, Oakley Corbin, Cohen Root, Sidra Root, Logan Waters, Mya Loughren, John Beckwith, Jr., Joshua Beckwith, Alex Marie Beckwith, and Zachary Beckwith.
Doris is also survived by her sisters: Zilpha Czyz, Reva Sadler, Betty Chamberlain; and her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Sylvia Walker. She was predeceased by her brother, Jess Walker.
Funeral services for Doris were held on Saturday from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Norwich. Elder Franklin Smith officiated. Burial in WarnTenBroeck Cemetery was at the convenience of Doris’ family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the World-Wide Work of Jehovah’s Witnesses; or to the Norwich Emergency Squad, 31 East Main St., Norwich, NY 13815.
