Matilda Carrano


NORWICH – Matilda ‘Tillie” Carrano, 92, of Peacock Park Apts., Norwich, passed away Tuesday evening, April 10, 2007 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Tillie was born Feb. 19, 1915 in New York City the daughter of Oreste and Maria Guarino Lodi. She grew up in Queens where she attended Public School #92 and at the early age of 14 left school to begin her working career. On Sept. 11, 1937 in Queens, she married Frank Carrano who passed away April 24, 1973. In 1946 Tillie and her husband moved to Cairo, N.Y. where they owned and operated a poultry farm while raising their family. Following the death of her husband, Tillie spent time living with her sisters in California and New Jersey. In 1982 she moved to Norwich to be near her son, John and his family where she enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up by attending many of their school activities.
Norwich truly became Tillie’s home and in 1989 she moved into Peacock Manor Apts. where she enjoyed being with her many friends.
Tillie is survived by her sons; Frank Carrano and his partner Douglas McCreadie of Wakefield, Rhode Island and John Carrano and his wife Carol of Pisgah Forest, N.C., her grandchildren; Mark Carrano of Colorado and David Carrano and his wife Jackie of Massachusetts, her sisters; Dorothy Janni of New Jersey and Antoinette Esposito of California. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her husband Frank, Tillie was predeceased by her sisters Adelaide and Rose and her brothers Louis and Frank Lodi.
A Memorial Mass for Tillie will be held at noon on Saturday from St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church of Norwich, The Rev. Douglas Cunningham, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill.
There will be no calling hours.
Following the Mass, Tillie’s family would like to invite everyone to the Msgr. Festa Parish Center for a luncheon.
