OXFORD – Mariyln A. Mowry died of ovarian cancer on May 10, 2005, at The Inn, St. Peters Hospice in Albany. Having donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Society, her remains have recently been returned to Oxford, the town where she was raised.
Born in Norwich, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Gladys Mowry. She was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Central School and earned a bachelor of arts and masters of library science at SUNY Albany. She was a school librarian at Lansingburgh High School from 1960 to 1962, Lisha Kill, Sand Creek and Colonie Central High Schools from 1962 until she retired in 1996. She was a member of Emmanuel-Friedens Church in Schenectady.
She was predeceased by her son, Kipp Ralph Niles; her companion, Bryce Butler; and her father, Ralph Mowry. Her mother, Gladys, passed away this past January.
She is survived by her son, David E. Niles of Guilderland; her daughter, Becky (William) Letko of Voorheesville; sisters, Linda (Ronald) Fergusson of Kingston, Wash. and Lorraine Vance of Bancouver, Canada; brother, Ronald (Susan) Mowry of Nampa, Idaho; nieces and nephews, Marsia Fergusson, Carina Fergusson, Daniel (Carri) Fergusson, Kevin (Dearborn) Mowry, Gregory Mowry, Robert Mowry, Chad (Kate) Vance, Josh (Kerry) Vance, Erin (Todd) McMillon; all of their children; her second family from Emmanuel: the McKennas (JoEllen, Sarah and Peter and their children), Lillie Chamberlain, Faye Bailey; Sharon Carter, Wendy Fambro, Ruth Lindenfelser and Sandy Detwyler; as well as many other friends both local and far away, too numerous to mention and too clear to forget.
A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday at the Riverview Cemetery in Oxford. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
