Veronica Dietrich Ulrichs

NORWICH – Veronica C. Hogan Dietrich Ulrichs passed away peacefully at home with her family on Monday, April 16, 2007.
She was born May 10, 1931 near Limerick, Ireland. Her parents were Mary and Christopher Hogan, who both predeceased her. Her siblings were brother Liam Hogan (deceased) and his wife Kitty of England; sister Eileen Hogan King and her husband George (deceased) also of England, and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by twins who passed away as infants. She danced and sang as a soloist in cathedrals across Ireland and England in her youth. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 following several years as a novice in convents in Ireland and England.
Shortly after arriving in the U.S., Mrs. Ulrichs was a patient in Homer Folk Hospital in Oneonta, for several years before moving to Norwich, where she met and married Eugene A. Dietrich in 1954. Gene died in September 1966. The Dietrich family took her in as one of their own. Gene’s parents, Elizabeth and Arthur Dietrich, Sr., both of Norwich, were like parents to her (both deceased). She volunteered at the Chenango Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Norwich where she also performed volunteer work and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the women’s afternoon bowling league in Norwich. She worked for Dr. Frank Ulrichs, Sr. as a dental assistant. She married Frank Ulrichs, Jr. in 1973, who nicknamed her Irish (Frank died in 1992). She was a member of Geneganslet Lake Association with Frank, where they enjoyed summers together with their family. Frank’s parents, Dr. Frank ‘Doc’ and Ina ‘Blossom’ Ulrichs, and his brother, Charles Ulrichs are deceased, but his sister Gertrude Cheatham of Nevada survives; as well as four nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ulrichs is survived by three children, Martin Dietrich and his wife Susan, and their two children, Corey and Darby, all of Norwich; Patricia Dietrich and her son, Jamar George, both of Norwich; and Barbara Jean Herndon and her husband Paul, Daytona Beach, Fla. She is also survived by three stepchildren, Michael Ulrichs and his wife, Laurel Elder, Oneonta; Cathy Feeney and her husband Michael, Long Island, and their three children, Michael, Rickey, and Shannon, as well as one grandson; and Lynne Catapano and her husband Anthony, and their three children, Anthony, Jessica, and Frankie, also of Long Island.
After wintering in Florida for many years, Veronica resided in Daytona Beach for the past five years, living with her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Paul Herndon and their loving dog, Daniel.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Merit Medical for all their loving care over the years and the Volusia/Flagler Hospice for their support and loving care.
