NORWICH – Edward R. Horton, 90, life-long Norwich resident, passed away Sunday evening, July 8, 2007, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The son of Rexford and Blanche (Grotsinger) Horton, Edward was born on June 24, 1917, in the house on the family farm on Grotsinger Road. He attended country schools in both Greene and Norwich, returning to the farm at the age of 21 and living there for the remainder of his life. Ed was a person who found pleasure in doing for others. In addition to the operation of the farm, he cut his own wood and sold wood in the area.
Ed is survived by his daughter-in-law. Pat Horton of Norwich; and by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Grace and Leon Franklin of Pharsalia, Helen Markham of Norwich, Carl and Mary Blackman of South Plymouth, Lester Blackman of Preston, Leslie and Joyce Blackman of Preston, Art Blackman of Plymouth, June Manwarren of Florida, Fred and Bertha Blackman of Pharsalia, Leonard Blackman of Smyrna, and Dick Crandall of Norwich; and by his beloved dogs and companions. Old Satch, Boomer, and Rex. Ed was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle Horton; his son, Edwin Horton; and his three brothers: Lewis, Harold, and Paul Horton.
Funeral services for Ed will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph Hinman, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the South Plymouth Cemetery.
