NORWICH – Julia Marie Young O’Reilly, 94, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2007, after a short illness at the Chenango Memorial Hospital with her family at her side.
Julia was born in Brooklyn in July of 1913 to the late James and Julia (Milner) Young of County Cork, Ireland. She attended Visitation School and worked for the New York Telephone Co. until her marriage in 1940 to Edward O’Reilly of County Longford, Ireland. Julia and her husband moved to Norwich in 1949 with their two older children where they owned and operated the Community Grocery Store on Henry Street for many years. Julia was a communicant of St. Paul’s Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society for over 50 years. She was a charter member of the Ladies of Charity, a member of the Monday Evening Musical Society, Catholic Charities and the Norwich Garden Club.
Julia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sheila (Sewain) Conklin, her son Edward and daughter-in-law (MaryLu Nicotera) O’Reilly and her daughter-in-law Elsie (Lindsey) O’Reilly. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Shane Conklin, Shealyn (Christopher) Conklin Card, Michael, James and Daniel O’Reilly, Eric, David and Sean O’Reilly and five great grandchildren, Julia, Ian and Aaron Card, Jennifer and Heather O’Reilly; her sister Margaret Canavan, her brother John Young and her sisters-in-law Elinor, Anna and Gloria Young. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1995, her son Richard in 2003 and by five brothers and a sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Julia will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from St. Paul’s Church of Norwich. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Marian Chapel of St. Paul’s Church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the Mass begins at 11.
