GREENE – Shirley Simpson, 84 of Greene and former long time Norwich resident, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007 in the Wilson Hospital of Johnson City.
Born in 1923 in Norwich, Shirley was the daughter or William James and Laura (Brownell) Billings. She grew up in Norwich and was a 1940 graduate of the Norwich High School. In earlier years, Shirley had lived for a brief period of time in Pennsylvania, where she worked as a nurse in the Veteran’s Hospital. She returned to Norwich, where she made her home for many years and for the past 15 to 20 years had made her home in Greene.
Shirley is survived by her children; Sharon Shackelton of Norwich, Gary (Susette) Simpson of Norwich, L. Rodney Simpson of Richfield Springs and Bonnie (Larry) Norwood of South New Berlin and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews along with several good friends in the Greene area.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband Levern Simpson, her grandson Keith Shackelton and her brothers Charles and Walter Billings.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Monday, Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Fr. Thomas Ward of Greene will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
