NORWICH – David J. Bauer, 81, of Sheldon Street, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City.
Born Feb. 7, 1926 in Bronxville, David was the son of Joseph and Frances (Kirshenbaum) Bauer. Following his schooling in New York City, David served with the Army Air Force in both World War II and Korea. During World War II, on Okinawa, David sustained wounds that earned him a purple heart. He also was awarded a bronze star for bravery. Following his discharge, David spent time in California with his brother before moving to Norwich in 1952. Shortly thereafter, he joined the workforce at Victory Markets in the Borden Avenue warehouse. He remained with Victory for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1988.
Dave love playing bingo and cards. He visited the Turning Stone Casino as well at Atlantic City often. He also enjoyed riding around the area and visiting his family. He was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church, the VFW and formerly of the American Legion.
David is survived by two daughters, Carol A. Silva of Norwich and Carla Schenker and her husband, Carl, of Nashua, N.H.; six grandchildren, Julie Marie Dreelin, David Schenker, Diana Vallerand, Kathleen Reynolds, and Angela and Susan Silva; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Miner and Samantha and Nicholas Vallerand; six great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by two bothers, Bernie and Joe Bauer and a sister, Charlotte Mayhood.
A Mass of Resurrection for David will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
