Frank Frair


OXFORD – Frank L. Frair, 85, life-long Oxford resident, passed away Friday afternoon, Aug. 17, 2007 in the Wilson Regional Medical Center of Johnson City. He was born in Oxford in 1922.
Frank spent his entire life in the Oxford area and was a 1941 graduate of the Oxford High School. Following his schooling he worked for a brief period of time for Smalley’s Theatre in Oxford and then entered the United States military serving his country during World War II. Returning home he went back to work for Smalley’s Theatre working in Walton and Delhi. Frank was employed by the New York DOT for 30 years retiring in September of 1977 as a heavy equipment operator. Not a man to sit idle, he then was employed by Detec Limo service in Norwich for 11 years and subsequently for six years by Coachmaster.
Active in the Oxford community, Frank was a 35-year member of the Oxford Fire Department. He had served in many capacities serving as Chief, Assistant Chief and was the department’s secretary for 24 years. He was also a life member of the Oxford American Legion Post 376 and a Member of VFW Post 2782.
Frank is survived by his wife Marian of Oxford; his children Curds (Pamela) Frair of Pearisburg, Va. and Sharon Frair of Norwich; two grandchildren, Megan Frair and Laurel Milton. Also surviving is a cousin, Louella Popkin.
Funeral services for Frank will be held at noon on Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment with full military rites will follow in the Riverview Cemetery of Oxford.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
