G. Louise Kline
NORWICH – G. Louise Kline, 93, formerly of the Chenango Valley Home and the Park House Apartments, Norwich, passed away early Wednesday morning, Nov. 14, 2007 in the New York State Veterans’ Home of Oxford.
The daughter of Jesse A. and Maude (Leach) Kline, Louise was born in LaGrange County, Indiana, in April of 1914. She moved to the Rockdale, Mt. Upton area from Gladwin, Michigan, in 1927, graduated from Mt. Upton High School in 1931, and from the New York State School of Agriculture in Cobleskill in 1934, where she had majored in Home Economics. Following this, Louise elected to follow a medical career and became a registered nurse from Binghamton City Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She was first employed as a Residence Director, Student Health nurse, but left this position to enlist in the U. S. Army Nurse Corps as a Lt., serving in England and Wales for 2 1/2 years. After discharge from the service, Louise chose to attain a B.S. and M.S. from Teacher’s College, Columbia University. Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio, favored her with employment as a Supervisor and Instructor of Medical Nursing, and Ass’t. Director of Nursing Service. This led her to the opportunity of being hired by the Ohio State Board of Nursing, Columbus, Ohio, as a Nursing Education Consultant and Ass’t. Executive Secretary. After 25 years of service in Columbus, Louise retired and moved to Norwich. She had been an active member of the United Methodist Church in Columbus and continued with the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Norwich. She held leadership roles in both places, ranging from presidency of U.M.H., choir, Council Chairperson, and trustee. She was a devout member, always available to any duty that was given her. She had an intense interest in education and encouraged young people to participate. She not only believed in it, she supported it financially. Throughout her life, Louise pursued an interest in sports, music, and crafts; and she faithfully donated her service for 10 years at the Chenango Memorial Hospital Pink Door.
Louise is survived by her sisters: Ima Perkins of Chatham, and Una Van Brink of New Berlin; her sisters-in-law: Pauline Tripp Kline and Viva Kline, both of Norwich, and Onley Kline of Edmeston; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Richard E., Burton J., and Lyle G. Kline.
