NORWICH – Josephine McNeil, 85, wife of former Norwich supervisor Robert McNeil and co-founder of McNeil’s Jewelers, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, in the New York State Veterans’ Home of Oxford.
A life-long Norwich resident, Josephine was born Sept. 27, 1920, daughter of George and Clara (Gifford) Holcomb. She attended Norwich High School, graduating in 1938 and, on May 29, 1941, in St. Paul’s Church, married Robert D. McNeil. NORWICH – Gordon S. “Spike” Cole, 88, formerly of 25 Birdsall Street, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2006 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford.
Born March 9, 1918 in Rockdale, Gordon was the son of Edward G. and Letha M. (Brizzee) Cole. He was educated in Rockdale and Norwich before holding several jobs. He worked for 16 years as a trainman for the O & W Railroad and then as a warehouseman for Norwich Pharmaceuticals for over 25 years. He retired on March 31, 1983.

NORWICH – Richard J. Scheer, 65, long-time resident of the Norwich area, passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, May 27, 2006, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.

NORWICH – Dean S. Allen, 73, of Jones Avenue, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Born July 27, 1932 in Norwich, Dean was the son of Lewis J. and Bernice E. (King) Allen. He was retired from the United States Air Force where he was a supply sergeant. Dean was a former member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
